I previously said that the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target collection (launching on September 15th) was one to watch out for. He just recently was awarded Accessories Designer of the Year by the CFDA, after all. Well, yesterday the look book was revealed and… well, I was left feeling very uninspired.
Designers collaborating for “budget” collections have a challenge in that stores like Zara and Forever 21 have really stepped up their game. You can find cheaper versions of the best designer trends at a reasonable price. The quality isn’t great, but neither is a collection for H&M or Target. Then you add the stress of getting to Target during the opening hour and the stress of crowds, well, I’m just not sure if these collaborations are worth it anymore.
The Phillip Lim collection (I included select looks in the slideshow above – you can find the full look book here) has that classic with a touch of contemporary that the designer is known for but most of the pieces look either much too simple or even a bit cheap (with the faux leather and sequin embellishments).
What do you think of the collection? Will you be adding this to your calendar?
